The Cotswolds is renowned for its quintessential English charm, drawing thousands of visitors annually. With its rolling hills and honey-colored stone cottages, the region offers a picturesque escape, but some villages stand out more than others. While Castle Combe, Bibury, and Broadway have long been celebrated for their beauty, a new favorite has emerged: Kingham.
Located southwest of Chipping Norton and southeast of Stow-on-the-Wold, Kingham boasts a serene village green, thatched cottages, and a Norman parish church that creates an inviting and tranquil atmosphere. Writers Alice Reynolds and Amelia Neath, in a recent article for The Independent, emphasized Kingham’s appeal, highlighting not only its beauty but also its excellent amenities, including two highly rated pubs—The Kingham Plough and The Wild Rabbit—as well as a charming village store.
The Wild Rabbit, in particular, has been transformed from an 18th-century inn into a stylish hotel and restaurant, making it an ideal spot for visitors seeking a cozy yet refined stay.

Kingham’s allure has not gone unnoticed by other publications. Lifestyle magazine Muddy Stilettos praises the village for offering a perfect blend of essential services—good schools, shops, and even a train station with direct links to London. The village also enjoys a touch of celebrity glamour, with famous visitors drawn to the area’s attractions such as the annual Big Feastival, hosted by Blur’s Alex James.
Trailing closely behind Kingham in the beauty stakes is Snowshill. Known for its idyllic charm, Snowshill has notable historical connections, including the ownership of Snowshill Manor by King Henry VIII, and visits from literary figures like J.B. Priestley and Virginia Woolf.
Broadway, often called the “Jewel of the Cotswolds,” completes the top three. This vibrant village offers visitors a range of activities, from exploring art galleries and museums to dining in acclaimed restaurants, including one by renowned chef James Martin. BBC’s Reach reporter Christopher Sharp recently experienced Broadway’s lively atmosphere, noting its bustling shops and cafés.
Though Castle Combe, Bibury, and Broadway have traditionally been seen as the gems of the Cotswolds, Kingham’s combination of timeless beauty, quality amenities, and cultural appeal has earned it the crown as the region’s most beautiful village.
