King Charles Welcomes Grandchildren Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove Estate

King Charles has joyfully reunited with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, following a visit from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to his country home at Highgrove. This long-awaited family gathering comes amid much speculation about the prospects of reconciliation within the royal family.

Archie, aged seven, and Lilibet, aged five, had not seen their grandfather in person since the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. The reunion took place in the afternoon on the Gloucestershire estate, with the Queen herself reportedly present at a nearby private residence.

This encounter is widely seen as a positive sign of mending relations between King Charles and his son Harry, who have been estranged for several years. Their relationship became strained following Harry’s public criticisms of his father, stepmother Camilla, brother William, and sister-in-law Kate, expressed through high-profile interviews, a Netflix documentary, and Harry’s memoir, Spare.

While Harry’s rift with his brother William remains unresolved—with William attending a charity polo tournament in Windsor during the reunion—the visit marks a hopeful step forward for King Charles and Harry. In February 2024, Harry hastily returned from California to Britain after learning of his father’s cancer diagnosis, which may have initiated their recent rapprochement.

Harry’s week-long UK tour supporting causes such as the Invictus Games initially proceeded without Meghan and the children due to security concerns. However, these issues appear to have been resolved, allowing Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet to visit Highgrove and spend time with the King.
