King Charles Laughs Off Seagull Incident During Northern Ireland Visit

King Charles exhibited remarkable humor and grace when a seagull unexpectedly pooped on his jacket during a visit to Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland. The 77-year-old was attending community engagements, including a food bank initiative, when the bird dropped its “gift” from above, hitting both the King and several bystanders.

Despite the obvious mark left on his suit jacket, King Charles responded with a witty, eight-word quip: “No, it’s fine. At least it didn’t land on my head!” His lightheartedness was evident as he declined an assistant’s suggestion to put on an overcoat to cover the stain. He continued engaging warmly with the crowd gathered to see him and spent nearly ten minutes greeting supporters behind crash barriers along the main street.

Earlier that day, the King visited several notable local organizations. At the Newcastle Community Cinema, he was warmly welcomed by volunteers and received a VIP ticket before helping launch a film trailer, showcasing local stories. He also met deaf actor Agnes Carberry and her husband, who feature in the film “A Quiet Love,” relating to life during the Troubles.

Charles then traveled to Donard Methodist Church to visit The Pantry Food Bank, where he showed genuine interest in the contents of food parcels, even amusing volunteers by sniffing wheaten bread and emphasizing the importance of everyday essentials like toilet paper. The food bank supports around 52 families monthly and anticipates higher demand due to rising heating costs this winter.

The King personally helped prepare a food parcel, carefully including fruits, bread, hygiene items, and toilet paper, praising the volunteers as “very, very special people” and hailing their work as “so important.”

After engagements with local organizations including the RNLI and Mountain Rescue, Charles participated in a walkabout, greeted enthusiastically by crowds repeatedly chanting “God Save The King.” Witnesses recalled his humorous take on the seagull incident, embracing the moment with good-natured charm.

Social media users also found amusement in the episode. Many praised the “skill and dexterity” of the Irish seagulls, joked about the bird’s potential fate, and noted the King’s unfazed attitude, with some mentioning the old superstition that bird droppings bring good luck.

King Charles’s visit highlights his connection to local communities and his ability to maintain composure and warmth even in unexpected moments.
