Kids' Club Celebrated by Ofsted for Nurturing Confidence and Creativity

Creative Kids After School Care in Gloucester has earned high praise from Ofsted for creating a lively, child-centered atmosphere that encourages creativity, confidence, and camaraderie among children. The club, operating at Longlevens Community Centre, successfully met all early years provision standards during its most recent inspection on March 19.

Serving 81 children aged 4 to 11, Creative Kids continues to build on its previous “Outstanding” rating by delivering exceptional care and engaging activities. Ofsted’s inspector, Linda Witts, highlighted the “happy buzz” that fills the setting and noted the positive interactions among children of all ages.

A key strength is the smooth transition children experience from school to club. Staff warmly welcome them, listening attentively as children share stories from their day. Routine activities such as group games and storytime provide a comforting structure, with playful moments like the ‘my bowl of fruit’ game sparking laughter and learning.

The dedicated staff team, comprised of qualified professionals with Level 3 and Level 4 childcare credentials, skillfully balance guidance with opportunities for independent play. Children confidently serve themselves from a diverse snack selection, take turns, and support peers during activities, whether indoors or safely supervised outdoors.

Creative Kids offers a rich variety of activities promoting physical agility and imagination—from climbing walls and swings to comic book drawing, puzzles, role play, and crafting handmade gifts. There is a strong focus on inclusivity, with parents praising the excellent support for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

Safeguarding measures are exemplary, fostering a culture where children’s wellbeing is paramount. Staff educate children about safety risks thoughtfully to maintain a sense of adventure while ensuring protection. Ongoing communication with local schools enhances continuity of care and understanding of each child’s daily experiences.

Operating term-time hours from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m., Creative Kids, led by provider Rosemary Anne Oakey since 2012, remains a cherished part of the community. Oakey expressed pride in the club’s achievements, emphasizing the staff’s dedication to nurturing each child’s happiness and growth.
