Key Cheltenham Junction Closed for Weekend as Roundabout Replaced by Traffic Lights

A major Cheltenham junction will be completely closed over a weekend to replace a temporary roundabout with new traffic lights, marking a significant step in the ongoing improvements to the A435 cycleway. The closure affects the junction of Wellington Road and A435 Evesham Road, near Pittville Park, and will take place from 8pm on Friday, July 11, until 6am on Monday, July 14.

During this time, all traffic will be diverted through a three-mile route via Prestbury to ensure smooth flow around the affected area. The upgrade involves installing new traffic signals designed for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists, as well as resurfacing the road to enhance safety and accessibility.

Pedestrian footways at the corners of the junction will also be temporarily closed to protect workers and pedestrians during construction. Montel Civil Engineering, the contractor overseeing the works, has notified local residents by letter to inform them of the necessary closure and the efforts being made to minimize disturbance.
