Kate Garraway Honors Hospice Heroes at Emotional End-of-Life Care Awards

Longfield Community Hospice in Minchinhampton has been awarded the prestigious ‘Support for Family and Carers Award’ at the Palliative and End of Life Care Awards held in London on June 27. The accolade highlights the hospice’s outstanding dedication to supporting families and carers of terminally ill patients with compassion and care.

Hosted by television presenter Kate Garraway, the ceremony celebrated organisations across the UK delivering exceptional palliative and end-of-life care. Longfield was also shortlisted in the ‘Hospice Team’ category for its remarkable work providing end-of-life care in patients’ homes.

Accepting the award, Katie Miller, Director of Hospice at Home, expressed gratitude: “This achievement reflects the unwavering commitment and compassion of everyone at Longfield Community Hospice. Our success is made possible by the tireless efforts of our staff, volunteers, and the families who place their trust in us during their most challenging times.”

Rebecca Draper, Senior Wellbeing Manager, emphasized the importance of the recognition: “Winning this award shines a light on the invaluable contributions of our complementary therapists, counsellors, and family carer support coordinator. It also reassures families who come to our Wellbeing Centre that they will receive nationally recognized, excellent support.”

Kate Garraway, who presented the awards, emotionally acknowledged the vital work of those in palliative care, sharing personal reflections on the support her family received during the final stages of her late husband Derek Draper’s illness.

Based in Gloucestershire, Longfield Community Hospice offers a range of services including hospice at home, wellbeing support, and bereavement counselling, continually striving to provide compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their loved ones.
