Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about the evolving dynamic on his Diddly Squat Farm, revealing that his longtime farm assistant, Kaleb Cooper, harbors deep suspicions about the latest technological advancements introduced to their agricultural operation.
Since 2019, the 66-year-old Clarkson and 27-year-old Kaleb have teamed up to navigate the ups and downs of running a farm in Oxfordshire, as documented in the popular Clarkson’s Farm series. While technology has revolutionized many aspects of their work, Kaleb has been wary, especially about the introduction of autonomous farming equipment.
In a recent interview with Closer Magazine, Clarkson shared, “Kaleb was deeply suspicious of all the new technology, especially the autonomous tractor. He was worried it might replace him, and I enjoyed teasing him about that.” Despite Kaleb’s apprehensions, Clarkson emphasized the benefits of these innovations. “The technology is incredible. We now have detailed underground soil mapping that tells us exactly where soil quality changes, allowing us to apply fertiliser only where necessary, which is much better for the environment.”

Though Clarkson has gained extensive knowledge about farming over the years, practical tasks still challenge him. “Anything practical! I still can’t attach equipment to the back of a tractor properly. I never remember which buttons to press or where the hydraulic hoses go,” he admitted, adding, “After all this time, I still find myself shouting for Kaleb to rescue me.”
The upcoming fifth series, set to premiere on Prime Video on June 3rd, promises to be the most dramatic yet. The latest season will explore how government budget changes impact the UK farming community and introduce significant operational upgrades at Diddly Squat 2.0. While advanced technology plays a key role, even larger hurdles are on the horizon.
Alongside the farming challenges, Clarkson also confronts personal health issues. In late 2024, he underwent emergency heart surgery after experiencing pains caused by blocked arteries. Speaking on Heart Radio about his recovery, Clarkson reassured fans: “It was quite a fraught year last year but no, I’m absolutely fine now. Tickety-boo.”
As fans eagerly await the new season, it’s clear that both the farm and its dedicated team will face considerable change, testing their resilience and adaptability in equal measure.
