Cheltenham Town have bolstered their squad by signing forward Josh Davison on loan from Tranmere Rovers until the conclusion of the season. The 26-year-old striker, who stands at an imposing 6ft 2in, recently appeared as a 65th-minute substitute in Tranmere’s 3-2 victory over Cheltenham on November 15.
This season, Davison has featured in 24 League Two matches, starting nine times and coming off the bench 15 times, contributing two goals. He also found the net against Nottingham Forest Under-21s in the EFL Trophy, showcasing his potential impact for the Robins.
Davison joined Tranmere in 2024 following a two-year spell at AFC Wimbledon, where he notably scored against Cheltenham in a 5-1 FA Cup triumph in November 2023. Before Wimbledon, he held a contract with Charlton Athletic, and had loan stints at Woking and Swindon Town.

His football journey began in the youth setup at Peterborough United, followed by a period at Enfield Town, before moving to Charlton Athletic. While at Charlton, he scored once in the Championship during the 2019/20 season.
Davison’s arrival marks Cheltenham’s third signing of the January transfer window, joining left-back George Nurse and West Bromwich Albion loan midfielder Cole Deeming. Additionally, forward Jake Bickerstaff’s loan move from Wrexham has been made permanent.
Meanwhile, right-back Darragh Power is expected to leave Cheltenham and return to Ireland. Power joined the club from Waterford over a year ago and has made 33 appearances in all competitions.
Cheltenham’s home fixture against Gillingham was recently postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the EV Charger Points Stadium. Manager Steve Cotterill’s side will next face Accrington Stanley away on Saturday at 3pm.
