Jeremy Clarkson’s One-Word Verdict on My Parking Revealed His True Character

Journalist Marianka Swain, who describes herself as a “terrible driver,” recently shared a memorable encounter involving Jeremy Clarkson that perfectly illustrated his sharp wit and unapologetic nature. Having learned to drive in London—a city infamous for its impatient motorists—Marianka was struggling to parallel park near her family home.

Despite having a generous parking space “the size of a football pitch,” Marianka found herself attempting the maneuver for the seventh time, overwhelmed and tearful. Suddenly, she heard outbursts of laughter and looked out the window to see Jeremy Clarkson doubled over in amusement at her repeated attempts.

Feeling utterly mortified, Marianka recalls Clarkson’s raised eyebrow and sardonic encouragement to “have another rubbish go.” Eventually, she gave up and asked her driving instructor to take over, only to be met with Clarkson’s loud snort and a succinct “Pathetic” before he strolled away.

Although the memory of Jeremy’s laughter still lingers whenever she tries to park, Marianka appreciates the humor in the situation and sympathizes with every guest on Top Gear who has faced similar relentless mocking for their driving abilities.

Clarkson, who hosted the original Top Gear series from 1988 to 2000 and its revival from 2001, shifted to Amazon Prime Video’s The Grand Tour in 2016 alongside Richard Hammond and James May after his departure from the BBC. Lately, his focus has turned to farming with the popular Clarkson’s Farm series, now in its fourth season, documenting his management of the 1,000-acre Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire.

Recently, Clarkson shared positive news that the farm had been declared free of bovine tuberculosis after a seven-month struggle, although he lamented the loss of a donkey due to laminitis. Through triumphs and setbacks, Clarkson’s journey from television presenter to farmer continues to captivate audiences.
