Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about his battle with prostate cancer, describing the experience as a “nightmare” but revealing that he is now in remission. The 66-year-old former Top Gear presenter shared the news on his show Clarkson’s Farm, where the latest series ended with uncertainty over his health.
Clarkson was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer last year. Prostate cancer affects more than 64,000 men annually in the UK, causing around 12,000 deaths each year. However, early diagnosis can significantly improve outcomes. Clarkson underwent a treatment called high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), a non-invasive procedure that targets cancer cells using focused sound waves. This method, previously used by Lord David Cameron, involves inserting a probe into the rectum.
While the treatment was successful, Clarkson faced complications that required him to use a catheter for some time. Speaking candidly to The Sunday Times, he described the catheter as “so undignified” and a “nightmare” to sleep with, comparing the sensation to “running a brewery” with all the pipes and taps involved. Despite the discomfort, he considers it a small price to pay for overcoming cancer.

Clarkson’s diagnosis came shortly after he experienced a serious health scare in early 2024, when he required emergency surgery and had a stent inserted due to life-threatening heart failure. Reflecting on his luck and survival, he called himself “officially the world’s luckiest man.”
Now in remission, Clarkson is urging others to prioritize regular health screenings, emphasizing that visits to the doctor are “a no-brainer” and neither “uncomfortable” nor “undignified.” He has been overwhelmed by support since sharing his story, with messages flooding in from around the world.
Having reached remission two months ago following a PSA test showing no signs of cancer, Clarkson remains vigilant as around 40 percent of prostate cancer cases can recur. He continues regular blood tests and is focused on staying positive. While his life has mostly returned to normal, he has changed his diet to avoid processed foods, humorously noting he sticks to simple items like steak or eggs.
Jeremy Clarkson’s openness about his health journey highlights the importance of early detection and perseverance in the face of serious illness.
