Jeremy Clarkson Praises England’s Lionesses After Thrilling Euro 2025 Comeback

Jeremy Clarkson has shared his thoughts on England’s Lionesses following their stunning comeback win against Italy that propelled them into the Women’s Euro 2025 final.

In his Sunday Times column, Clarkson reflected on the widespread acclaim for the team, spurred by late goals from Michelle Agyemang and Chloe Kelly. Their dramatic fightback has set the stage for an eagerly awaited final clash with Spain.

“All week, the nation has lined up to shower the England women’s football team with praise and admiration,” Clarkson wrote. “From the King’s warm congratulations to the Prime Minister’s platitudes about hard-working families, everyone is celebrating these brave lasses. They truly embody the Blitz spirit—unyielding and fearless.”

Despite the surge in support since the Lionesses’ historic Euro 2022 triumph, Clarkson noted that some football purists remain skeptical. “I’ve heard friends and football scholars dismiss women’s football as not quite matching the men’s game,” he admitted.

Critics often claim the women’s game lacks technical precision, mentioning long shots, misdirected headers, midfield chaos, and smaller goalkeepers. However, Clarkson himself distances from such detailed analysis, confessing that football isn’t his area of expertise.

“What I can say is that I watched the final hour against Italy and found it incredibly thrilling. I may have even bounced on the sofa,” he revealed with a touch of humor.

Facing elimination, England was rescued by 19-year-old substitute Michelle Agyemang, who scored a stoppage-time equaliser to force extra time. Then, with penalties looming, it was Chloe Kelly who stepped up. After an initial save by Italy’s goalkeeper Laura Giuliani, Kelly scored on the rebound, sealing a second consecutive remarkable comeback for the Lionesses.

“When that young star smashed the winning goal, I genuinely let out some squeaking noises,” Clarkson confessed.

The Lionesses now prepare to face Spain in the final in Switzerland this Sunday. The Prince of Wales, patron of the Football Association, expressed his support online ahead of the match: “Good luck to the Lionesses tomorrow. The nation is so proud after some stunning comebacks! We are all cheering you on!”
