Jeremy Clarkson has bravely opened up about his battle with prostate cancer, revealing that he is now in remission after undergoing high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment. The 66-year-old television presenter, best known for hosting Top Gear and Clarkson’s Farm, described his experience as a “nightmare” but ultimately a victorious one.
Clarkson first shared his diagnosis in the finale of the latest series of Clarkson’s Farm, where he was seen recovering in a hospital bed. The aggressive nature of his prostate cancer was a shock to many, prompting him to speak candidly about the challenges he faced. Prostate cancer affects over 64,000 men in the UK annually and causes approximately 12,000 deaths each year. Early detection, however, greatly improves the chances of successful treatment.
The treatment Clarkson chose was HIFU, a non-invasive procedure that uses focused ultrasound waves to target cancer cells, a method also used by former Prime Minister Lord David Cameron. The treatment involves inserting a probe into the rectum, and while effective, Clarkson experienced complications afterward that required a catheter to help with urination. “Catheters are terrible all the time, but trying to sleep with one is just a nightmare,” he told The Sunday Times. Despite the discomfort, he considered it a “small price to pay” for overcoming cancer.

Clarkson’s diagnosis followed a serious health scare earlier in 2024, when he underwent emergency surgery and had a stent inserted due to heart failure. Reflecting on that time, he calls himself “officially the world’s luckiest man.”
Now in remission, confirmed by a recent PSA test showing no evidence of cancer, Clarkson is urging men to take health screenings seriously. He stresses that visits to the doctor are quick and not undignified, likening the decision to attend them as a “no-brainer.” His candidness has resonated with fans worldwide, with messages of support flooding in from as far as Australia.
Although optimistic, Clarkson remains vigilant, knowing that prostate cancer recurs in about 40% of patients. He will continue regular blood tests to monitor his health but feels his life has mostly returned to normal. He has also made lifestyle changes, steering clear of processed foods and focusing on simple, whole ingredients like steak and eggs.
Clarkson’s openness about his health journey serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection and the value of perseverance through medical challenges.
