Jeremy Clarkson has revealed his intention to open a second pub, though it is unlikely to be located in the UK. During an appearance at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham, the former Top Gear presenter discussed his current pub, The Farmer’s Dog, and the difficulties facing British farmers.
Clarkson acquired The Windmill, a pub set within five acres near Burford, Oxfordshire, for less than £1 million. Renamed The Farmer’s Dog and reopened in 2004, it has attracted visitors nationwide with its traditional pub dishes made from fresh British produce alongside the popular Hawkstone beer.
At the conference, Clarkson appeared with land agent Charlie Ireland, also featured on his series Clarkson’s Farm. Speaking on a panel led by the party’s shadow environment secretary Victoria Atkins, Clarkson described farming in the UK as “relentless” and “very, very difficult.”

He explained that despite hard work throughout the year, yields had been disappointing, highlighting the numerous challenges farmers face, including rising costs, taxation policies, and international conflicts. “It’s terrible, is the only way of describing it,” he said.
When asked if he would consider opening a pub in Atkins’s Lincolnshire constituency of Louth and Horncastle, Clarkson said he was exploring the possibility of launching another pub but confirmed it would not be within the UK. He questioned, “Why would anybody set up a business in this country right now?”
Clarkson indicated he might establish a business abroad in a country favourable to farming and employment, though he admitted this was more of a dream than a confirmed plan. Despite these challenges, he affirmed he has no intention of leaving the UK.
