Alan Davies, the beloved British comedian, actor, and presenter, is set to appear on James Martin’s Saturday Morning show later today (7 March). Known widely for his starring role in the BBC mystery drama Jonathan Creek and as the only permanent panelist on the BBC’s panel show QI since its debut in 2003, Alan has captivated audiences for decades.
Beginning his career as a stand-up comedian, Alan has toured extensively and authored three well-received memoirs: My Favourite People and Me (2009), Just Ignore Him (2020), and the forthcoming White Male Stand-Up (2025).
Fans tuning in to James Martin’s ITV programme will also get to see appearances from chef Sami Tamimi and gardener David Domoney, alongside James cooking in his Hampshire kitchen.

But beyond his professional achievements, Alan’s personal life holds an intriguing story. He is married to Katie Maskell, a celebrated author and former literary agent. Katie studied English and Drama at Warwick University and completed postgraduate drama training at East 15 Acting School in London. In 2010, she won Waterstones’ £5,000 Children’s Book Prize for her book The Great Hamster Massacre.
Alan and Katie’s romance began spectacularly—in the audience during a QI recording in 2005. They became engaged six months later and married in 2007, with comedian and Strictly Come Dancing champion Bill Bailey serving as Alan’s best man. The couple has three children together: Susie (born 2009), Robert (2011), and Francis (2016).
Alan recently recounted how they met during an appearance on The One Show. Host Alex Jones remarked on the magic of QI bringing them together, and Alan confirmed, “Yeah, it’s true. 20 years ago.”
He shared a memorable moment from that day: while involved in a QI stunt involving sugar glass, a comedian on the opposing team accidentally threw a real glass toward Alan. Noticing Katie in the audience just as this happened, Alan thought, “This could end my career” — but fortunately, the glass broke harmlessly on the desk. He then met Katie backstage in the green room, fortunately before she’d seen his appearance clearly.
Don’t miss Alan Davies and the rest of the guests on James Martin’s Saturday Morning at 9:30 AM today on ITV1.
