James Martin’s ITV Show Guest Alan Davies: Meet His Famous Wife

Alan Davies, beloved British comedian, actor, and presenter, is set to appear on James Martin’s ITV show Saturday Morning today (7 March). Known widely for his starring role in the BBC mystery drama Jonathan Creek and as the longest-serving panellist on the BBC quiz show QI, Alan has built an impressive career since the late 1990s.

Besides his television work, Alan began as a stand-up comedian and continues to tour, with his most recent shows performed last year. He has also authored three acclaimed memoirs: My Favourite People and Me (2009), Just Ignore Him (2020), and White Male Stand-Up (2025).

While Alan’s talents are well celebrated, fans tuning in to James Martin’s program might be intrigued to learn about his equally accomplished wife, Katie Maskell. Katie is an author and former literary agent who studied English and Drama at Warwick University and completed postgraduate training at London’s East 15 Drama School. She gained notable recognition after winning Waterstones' £5,000 Children’s Book Prize in 2010 for her popular book, The Great Hamster Massacre.

Alan and Katie’s romantic story began backstage at a QI recording in 2005, leading to their engagement within six months and marriage in 2007. Comedian Bill Bailey, famed for Strictly Come Dancing and stand-up, was Alan’s best man. The couple shares three children: Susie (2009), Robert (2011), and Francis (2016).

Alan recently recounted their first meeting on The One Show, describing a hilarious moment during a QI stunt involving a glass that was mistaken for sugar glass but shattered near him. He said, “I saw her in the audience and thought I wanted to talk to her after the show. This could finish me—but luckily, it all turned out well.” Alan joked that Katie didn’t recognize him immediately as she wasn’t wearing her glasses at the time.

Viewers can watch Alan, alongside chef Sami Tamimi and gardener David Domoney, as James Martin showcases his cooking skills from his Hampshire kitchen on Saturday Morning today at 9.30am on ITV1. For QI fans, the show remains available on BBC iPlayer.
