Jeremy Clarkson returned to ITV screens on Thursday night to host a new episode of the refreshed gameshow, Millionaire Hot Seat. The show offers a unique twist on the classic quiz format, featuring six contestants taking turns in the “hot seat” with only 15 seconds to answer each question.
Though the revamped format has drawn mixed reviews, the game introduces a ‘pass’ option instead of lifelines. Each player can use this pass once to skip a question and rejoin at the end of the queue—a feature that has sparked some debate among viewers. However, any incorrect answer results in immediate elimination and a reduction in the jackpot prize.
Thursday’s episode featured a standout contestant named Lucy, who was the fifth player brought into the hot seat while the jackpot remained at £1 million. Despite her uncertainty, Lucy took bold guesses early on and impressively answered correctly, leaving Clarkson visibly impressed.

When faced with her second question, Lucy acknowledged her doubts but chose to risk her chance rather than pass, telling fellow contestants, “Sorry, sorry if I’m wrong, everybody!” Clarkson warned her that a wrong answer would cut the jackpot by £750,000. Yet again, her guess proved right, prompting Clarkson to exclaim, “You’re right again! Luckiest contestant in human history!”
Lucy’s streak continued as she reached £100,000, but ultimately her luck ran out with a question about which famous figure was oldest when they achieved a major milestone. She guessed David Bowie winning a BRIT Award, but the correct answer was David Beckham receiving a knighthood at age 50.
This wrong answer reduced the prize pot for the first time during the episode. Another contestant following Lucy also answered incorrectly, shrinking the jackpot further and leaving the final player to compete for £100,000. Unfortunately, the last contestant guessed wrong, confirming Beckham as the correct answer.
Millionaire Hot Seat, with its fast-paced and suspenseful new format, remains available to watch on ITVX.
