Unofficial ‘airport’ car parks near Bristol Airport have caused a stir as fields nearby are being utilized to accommodate thousands of vehicles. Car owners have reported unexplained mileage and damage to their vehicles, sparking concerns within the local communities.
North Somerset Council’s enforcement team is actively investigating these unauthorized car parks, addressing issues such as the impact on the countryside and the inconvenience faced by unsuspecting holidaymakers who had their cars parked in fields. The lack of security measures for vehicles left on local roads has also raised alarms.
Owners have reported excessive wear and tear on their vehicles, along with undisclosed mileage. Bristol Airport has allocated funds for a Planning and Parking Enforcement officer to mitigate parking problems around the airport.

In response to these issues, the council has issued notices, achieved compliance in some cases, and successfully cleared areas previously occupied by parked cars. Additionally, there have been warnings about unethical airport car parking companies, urging travelers to be cautious when booking parking services.
The council, along with Bristol Airport, is taking steps to address concerns by engaging with parish councillors and planning a parking meeting for local representatives to address major hotspots.
