Tonight, residents and visitors in Gloucester can anticipate a heightened police presence as officers intensify operations in the city. Plain-clothes officers will be focusing on deterring youth crime, anti-social behavior, violence against women and girls, and drug-related activities.
In addition, a police dog will be deployed in the vicinity of the docks. This surge in law enforcement activity is part of Operation Comet, an initiative aimed at addressing crime within the night-time economy.
Inspector Ash Gardner, representing Gloucester’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, emphasized, “People have the right to enjoy their evenings in our city without the threat of violence, harassment, or intimidation. Any offenders will face appropriate action. Our increased visibility will serve as a deterrent and make potential troublemakers think twice.”

Gardner added, “Everyone deserves to have a good time in a secure environment, and we are committed to ensuring just that. Our officers are approachable, and we encourage anyone with concerns to seek our assistance.”
According to data analysis by the Crime Rate project, Gloucester’s crime rate surpasses both the national and regional averages by 51% and 100% respectively, making it the most ‘dangerous’ area in Gloucestershire.
In January, 375 crimes were reported in Gloucester, with nearly 30% (29.3%) attributed to violent or sexual offences. Anti-social behavior and public order offenses accounted for 70 and 52 reports respectively.
Police will collaborate with various organizations including The Night Angels, Street Pastors, Night Safe officers, street medics, and licensed premises. The Night Angels, originally established in Stroud, aim to create safe spaces for women and other vulnerable individuals during a night out.
