Increased police presence for Cheltenham’s peaceful protest

Gloucestershire Constabulary has announced a heightened police presence in Cheltenham tomorrow, Saturday, December 13, to support a lawful and peaceful protest. Extra officers will be stationed mainly around the town centre near Cambray Place to help maintain safety and minimise disruption.

Deputy Chief Constable Katy Barrow-Grint emphasized the force’s commitment to protecting the right to peaceful assembly while ensuring public order. “We have been in contact with groups planning to attend this event. Our priority is keeping everyone safe,” she said. The constabulary is also coordinating with partner organisations to limit the impact on the wider community.

While the police respect peaceful protest, they made clear that any unlawful behaviour will be swiftly dealt with. “Disorder will not be tolerated, and immediate action will be taken against anyone breaking the law,” Barrow-Grint added.

In preparation, Gloucestershire County Council will implement road closures on Bath Street, Wellington Street, and Cambray Place from 10 am to 4 pm to facilitate the event and maintain safety.

Members of the public who have information about planned protests or any anticipated disruption are encouraged to contact Gloucestershire Police by calling 101 or reporting online.
