Increased Police Presence Ahead of Cheltenham’s Lawful and Peaceful Protest

Gloucestershire Constabulary has announced an increased police presence in Cheltenham this Saturday, December 13, as a lawful and peaceful protest is scheduled to take place.

Extra officers will be patrolling the town centre, particularly near Cambray Place, to help minimize disruption and maintain safety for all residents and visitors during the event.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary emphasized the force’s commitment to supporting the right to peaceful protest while remaining vigilant against any unlawful behavior. Deputy Chief Constable Katy Barrow-Grint stated, “We have communicated with individuals planning to attend and are working closely with partner organizations to prioritize public safety and limit disruption.”

Barrow-Grint also highlighted the careful balance law enforcement seeks to maintain between the rights of protesters and the wider community. “We want to ensure the peaceful demonstration has only a minor impact on everyday life in the area. However, any form of disorder will not be tolerated, and immediate action will be taken against those who break the law,” she added.

To accommodate the protest and support public safety measures, Gloucestershire County Council will implement road closures on Bath Street, Wellington Street, and Cambray Place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Members of the public with information regarding planned protests or any potential disorder are encouraged to contact Gloucestershire Police via their online reporting system or by calling 101.
