Gloucester City manager Daf Williams praised his team’s resilience and character following their hard-fought 2-1 comeback victory against Hanwell Town. The win, achieved on Hanwell’s unbeaten home ground, brings Gloucester vital points in their pursuit of second place in the league.
The match started unfavorably for the Tigers, who fell behind within just three minutes. Hanwell’s Henry Snee capitalized on a break down the left by Elijah Oladunjoye, tapping the ball home to give the hosts an early lead.
Gloucester responded strongly in the second half, leveling the score in the 65th minute. Morgan Lewis delivered a well-placed cross that found Elis Watts, whose deflected shot settled into the net, beating the Hanwell goalkeeper.

Building on that momentum, substitute Kieran Phillips put Gloucester ahead with just 12 minutes remaining. Phillips met a precise cross from Watts and calmly finished past the goalkeeper, securing the comeback victory.
Williams commended his team not only for their skill but for their mental toughness, especially given Hanwell’s strong home record of eight unbeaten games. “It’s a difficult place to play, and to come back after a bad start shows great character. The lads represented the club and our supporters brilliantly today,” he said.
The manager also highlighted the team’s ability to overcome adversity, pointing to injuries in the warm-up and the week prior. West Brom loanee Jamal Mohammed was forced out due to injury just before kickoff, replaced by King Baidoo. Despite these setbacks and other fitness concerns, the players maintained their high standards.
“We’ve had to face a lot this season, but the way the players keep pushing and don’t drop their levels is a testament to their commitment,” Williams added.
With this win, Gloucester City remains in close contention for second place, sitting just two points ahead of rival Farnham Town, who have two games in hand.
