‘I’d Take Eddie Hearn to The Stump for a Guinness’ – Cirencester Lad on His New Podcast and Rubbing Shoulders with Legends

Charlie Parsons, a passionate boxing enthusiast from Cirencester, has carved out an impressive career in the sport’s media world. At only 22 years old, Charlie has already interacted with some of boxing’s most influential figures, including promoters Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren, and fighters like Tyson Fury, Chris Eubank Jr., and Oleksandr Usyk.

Charlie’s journey began during lockdown while studying at Cirencester College. Recognizing that many people were seeking engaging content, he began relentlessly reaching out to industry insiders. His persistence paid off when former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs agreed to a Zoom interview, marking the start of his media career.

Since then, Charlie has traveled globally to broadcast fights—from Sydney to Mexico—and founded his own media outlet, The Stomping Ground, which boasts over 27,000 Instagram followers and 44,000 TikTok followers. Personally, he commands a strong social media presence with 40,000 Instagram followers and 200,000 TikTok followers under his surname, ‘Parsons’.

His latest venture is the podcast Fight Your Corner, co-hosted with former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew. Released in two episodes so far, the podcast aims to feature the biggest names in boxing and combat sports. Charlie describes working alongside Bellew as a “real privilege” and recalls attending Bellew’s fight against Usyk in 2018—an experience made even more special as it was a gift from his mother.

Despite his international success, Charlie remains deeply connected to Cirencester and the Cotswolds, where he moved as a teenager. “I love the Cotswolds. What a lovely part of the world,” he says, expressing gratitude toward the community that shaped him. He also acknowledges local boxing promoter Mark Neilson and gyms in the region for supporting grassroots boxing, although he laments the lack of funding in this area.

Charlie’s relationship with Eddie Hearn has brought some lighthearted moments. Eddie often teases Charlie about Cirencester, but Charlie appreciates the promoter’s support. “We’ve talked about getting him down to Cirencester at some point,” Charlie says, adding humorously that a visit to The Stump pub for a Guinness and pizza would be his idea of a perfect day out.

Beyond boxing, Charlie has interviewed other notable figures such as Ed Sheeran and footballer Declan Rice, experiences that have helped him stay grounded. He reflects on the importance of humility and treating everyone equally, advice instilled by his mother.

As Fight Your Corner grows, Charlie is hopeful about securing high-profile guests. His ultimate dream guest? Tyson Fury. “Him and Tony together would be fantastic,” Charlie remarks, seeing great potential for an unforgettable episode.

For aspiring sports media professionals, Charlie’s key advice is to be relentless. “You have to keep reaching out and networking, even if rejection is tough,” he says. “Back yourself, be polite, and give everything your best shot. You never know where it might lead.”
