Topshop, the iconic British fashion brand that vanished from UK high streets in 2021, has made a triumphant return through a new partnership with John Lewis. This week, all 32 John Lewis stores nationwide began stocking Topshop collections, reviving the brand’s presence across Britain’s retail landscape.
Five years ago, Cheltenham’s Topshop on the Promenade closed its doors, leaving a void for local fashion fans. Now, Cheltenham shoppers can rediscover the label’s signature styles at their nearby John Lewis department store for the first time in years.
This major reintroduction forms part of John Lewis’s £800 million long-term investment strategy, aimed at refreshing its retail spaces ahead of the 2024 spring/summer season. The collaboration with Topshop initially launched last year through pop-up shops before expanding into a full rollout.

Topshop’s absence followed the downfall of its former owner Arcadia, which went into administration in 2021. The brand was subsequently acquired by ASOS, who continued selling Topshop’s pieces online. Last year, Topshop returned to physical retail with a presence in London’s Liberty department store before teaming up with John Lewis.
At John Lewis, Topshop will be available across all 32 locations, while its companion menswear label, Topman, will feature in seven stores, excluding Cheltenham. Shoppers can expect to find 130 of Topshop’s most popular items, including its renowned denim collection and new-season footwear. Additionally, both Topshop and Topman pieces will be accessible via the John Lewis website.
Michelle Wilson, Topshop’s managing director, said, “Our partnership with John Lewis makes it easier than ever for customers to see, feel, and take home the styles they love. We’re excited to bring Topshop back to high streets with the service our customers expect.”
Coinciding with the launch, Topshop is taking part in London Fashion Week with a promotional “takeover” of Piccadilly Circus and other UK activations. This comes as part of John Lewis’s renewed focus on fashion under managing director Peter Ruis.
Ruis emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration, stating, “Being the exclusive home of a heritage brand like Topshop reflects our ambition to be the definitive style authority on the British high street. Our ongoing investments and introduction of new fashion labels signal exciting times ahead for John Lewis.”
The retailer is also unveiling 14 new fashion, jewellery, and accessory brands this season, enhancing its style offering across stores including a redesigned fashion floor at its Oxford Street flagship.
This Topshop revival breathes new life into the brand and strengthens John Lewis’s position as a key fashion destination across the UK.
