Iconic 160-Year-Old Stroud Hotel Listed for £3.25 Million

An iconic hotel at the heart of Stroud, standing tall for over 160 years, is now available for £3.25 million. Built in 1863, this Grade II listed building was originally known as The Imperial Hotel and has welcomed notable guests including Queen Elizabeth II. The Beatles also reportedly passed through after their debut performance nearby at the Subscription Rooms in 1962.

Located on Station Road next to Stroud railway station, the 24-room hotel—including five suites—can accommodate up to 50 guests. After closing in May 2020, the hotel underwent an extensive multi-million-pound refurbishment and reopened in June 2024 with a fresh identity as The Stroud Hotel.

The property is now on the market through the specialist Hotels Agency team at Colliers estate agents. Peter Brunt, director at Colliers, highlighted the hotel’s unique blend of historic charm and modern amenities, paired with a strong food and beverage offering. He emphasized that this presents an exceptional opportunity for experienced operators to build upon the solid foundation laid by the current owners and capitalize on Stroud’s rising status as a sought-after lifestyle and visitor destination.

Having successfully revived the hotel post-closure and established a vibrant hospitality experience, the owners are seeking a buyer with specialist expertise to lead the business into its next chapter of growth.

Stroud’s recognition as one of the UK’s top places to live by The Sunday Times in both 2021 and recent years underscores the town’s increasing appeal to residents and visitors alike.
