Many supermarkets now offer mystery bags filled with discounted items nearing their expiry dates — a clever way to reduce food waste while giving customers a chance to grab bargains. The catch? You won’t know what’s inside until you open it, adding an exciting element of surprise but also uncertainty.
Curious to see if Iceland’s £4 mystery bag was worth the gamble, Laura Khoshaba and her mum Ann headed to the store and purchased one. As they unpacked their haul, they were amazed by the variety and quantity of items inside.
The bag contained chicken nuggets, dippers, chips, mini Quiche Lorraines, BBQ chicken strips, Halloween-themed potato shapes, McCain skin-on fries, chicken bites, and waffle fries. To add some color and nutrition, they also found sweetcorn and peas tucked among the fried favorites.

Ann exclaimed, “There’s so much food in here for just £4.” Laura agreed, calling it “such a good deal.” Ann added, “Apparently, they do this every day for £4. That’s a lot of food—maybe worth £30? It’s a fantastic bargain. Well done, Iceland!”
Fans in the comments agreed the mystery bag was excellent value. One wrote, “Honestly, for £4 that is a steal.” Another said, “That’s a very good bargain for family shopping.” A third chimed in, “Wow, that’s a great price.”
If you want to try one for yourself, keep in mind the mystery bags are only available while stocks last. You need to spend £25 in-store to qualify, and there’s a limit of two bags per order. But if you’re lucky, you could walk away with an incredible frozen feast.
