Harriet Cowan, who appeared in the fourth series of Clarkson’s Farm, has opened up about what Jeremy Clarkson is truly like behind the scenes. The 25-year-old, who stepped in for Kaleb Cooper during filming, lived in a caravan at Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire for 11 weeks, helping Clarkson manage his farmland.
The former nurse, who left her medical career to pursue farming and content creation, impressed viewers with her farming knowledge and quick wit in her interactions with the former Top Gear presenter. On the Fed By Farmers podcast, Harriet described Jeremy as a “lovely” presence and “like a father figure” during her time on the farm.
She noted the polarized opinions people expressed about Clarkson after seeing her on the show. “He’s like Marmite, isn’t he? People would say, ‘I hate that guy,’ or ‘I love that guy,’ and I think he just doesn’t care, which is great,” she said.

Though Harriet knew of Jeremy Clarkson before joining the series, she hadn’t watched his earlier shows, admitting she wasn’t into cars in her younger years. However, when Charlie Ireland, Clarkson’s land agent, approached her about joining the Amazon Prime Video series, she was intrigued by the opportunity.
Harriet described Jeremy as “very much like every other farmer I’ve ever met,” and noted his eagerness to learn. Clarkson’s farming journey began in 2019 after his farm’s previous tenant retired. Having purchased the 1,000-acre estate in 2008, he later took over management himself, rebranding it as Diddly Squat Farm and sharing his farming experiences on television.
Harriet noticed how much Jeremy wanted to succeed with the farm and even joked that he has “the physique of a farmer.” While she hasn’t ruled out returning to Clarkson’s Farm, Harriet shared her own ambitions to one day purchase a farm with her partner, James Booth.
Her goal is clear: “I want somewhere that’s mine where I can grow store cattle and sell them for fat or whatever. I want to look at it and say, ‘I’ve done that.’” Alongside farming, Harriet hinted at exciting new TV projects and joked about her ongoing YouTube efforts.
