I Visited Every Village in the Cotswolds – Here Are the Only 5 You Need to See

The Cotswolds, a beloved region in England, draws an estimated 23 to 35 million visitors each year, ranging from day-trippers to longer-stay tourists. Amid this popularity, one influencer claims that despite the numerous charming villages, only five truly stand out.

Bartek Grzesnikowski, who calls himself “your local guide to the Cotswolds” on Instagram and has amassed 9,300 followers, shared his personal top five villages in a recent video. The clip features Bartek exploring each village as overlay text reads, “I’ve visited almost every village in the Cotswolds. Here are the only 5 you actually need to see.” He also elaborates on his choices in the post’s caption.

Bartek explains: “After exploring this region for years and visiting dozens of villages, the question I get asked most is, ‘Which ones are actually the best?’ It’s impossible to choose, but if I had to pick just five, these are the ones that steal my heart every time.”

His fifth pick, Broadway, is described as the “Jewel of the Cotswolds.” Bartek praises its grand High Street, lined with warm honey-colored stone buildings, and highlights Broadway Tower, which offers some of the best views in the county.

Lower Slaughter claims the fourth spot on his list. Bartek calls this village “romantic” and “quiet,” drawing attention to a peaceful walk along a gentle stream leading to the Old Mill, an experience he finds magical.

Coming in third is Snowshill, “tucked away in the hills.” According to Bartek, Snowshill feels like a step back in time with steep, winding streets and breathtaking vistas. A visit to Snowshill Manor adds to the village’s moody and dramatic charm.

Naunton takes second place. Bartek labels it a “hidden gem,” especially appreciating the picturesque River Windrush running through the gardens. He also notes that Naunton remains peaceful and largely untouched by heavy tourism.

Top of Bartek’s list is Castle Combe. Despite its popularity and occasional crowds, he declares it “the prettiest village in England.” Noting its frequent use as a movie set (“War Horse,” “Stardust”), he advises early risers to visit at 8 a.m. to enjoy the iconic bridge without the crowds. “It is a fairytale come to life,” he says.

The post was well received by many, garnering over 3,000 likes and comments praising his selections. Fans agreed, with one commenting: “Excellent choices,” and another recommending visits in spring or autumn.

However, some locals disagreed, calling his choices arrogant and pointing out other beautiful and quieter villages. One resident emphasized, “Winchcombe is amazing – a real Cotswold working town just 10 minutes from Broadway with great shops and pubs.” Others simply voiced their dissent, highlighting the subjective nature of such lists.

Whether you agree with Bartek’s picks or not, his curated list highlights some of the most iconic and charming spots in the Cotswolds worth exploring.
