I Tried the New Chicken Vindaloo Pukka Pie — One Thing Genuinely Surprised Me

When I got the chance to try Pukka Pie’s new Chicken Vindaloo, I was unsure what to expect. My experience with spicy food is quite limited—usually just the occasional hot beef curry from my local Chinese takeaway or risking the fiery wings at Nando’s.

I still remember tearing up from Nando’s extra hot wings, chugging Coke Zero to cool the burn. So naturally, when faced with Pukka’s latest offering, which proudly carries a four-chilli spice rating, I was nervous as the air fryer beeped, signaling my pie was ready.

Pukka has branded this their spiciest pie yet. Inside the flaky puff pastry are tender chicken chunks, red peppers, and onions swimming in an intensely fiery vindaloo curry sauce. It’s a bold bite aimed at warming up fans during the summer football season.

Isaac Fisher, Pukka’s CEO, says, “Pukka and football go hand in hand, so launching this pie during a huge international football summer makes perfect sense. For many fans, a Pukka pie is a key part of match day, whether they’re in the stadium or watching from home. We wanted to introduce a recipe people recognize and love, with a serious kick—that true, big flavour Pukka fans expect.”

Having only tried traditional gravy or creamy pies before, I wasn’t sure how I’d handle a curry-filled one. But slicing the pie open released a spicy aroma that immediately hit my senses and prompted me to grab a glass of water—just in case.

Then came the first bite—and I was pleasantly surprised. Often, when a pie is marketed as fiery, flavour can take a back seat to heat. Not here. Pukka has balanced a powerful punch of heat with robust, complementary flavours: ripe tomatoes, mellow garlic, and zingy ginger blend harmoniously with the chicken.

I’d feared this pie would be scorchingly overwhelming, but it turns out I’m more spice-tolerant than I thought. I got through half the pie before my eyes started watering, yet I was genuinely impressed by how delicious it was.

This Chicken Vindaloo pie isn’t just about heat—it’s about flavour that fires up your taste buds in all the right ways.
