I Took a £95 Health Test — Here’s Why I’m So Glad I Did

Despite eating well and exercising regularly, I’ve always struggled with persistent health worries. Minor symptoms—like a side ache or headache—would spiral in my mind into worst-case scenarios. Part of this fear stems from having experienced a cancer diagnosis before, turning what seemed like harmless symptoms into a life-changing ordeal.

A couple of years ago, I made a positive lifestyle change by cutting out ultra-processed foods, which improved my weight and fitness. Yet the nagging anxiety about my health remained. So, when I was offered the chance to try an at-home health test from My Health Checked, I eagerly accepted.

They provide a variety of tests targeting heart health, energy levels, intolerances, and vitamin deficiencies. I opted for their General Health Blood Test (£95), which promised a comprehensive profile assessing key markers related to my heart, liver, and kidney function—the perfect fit given my particular interest in liver health.

The test kit arrived by post, containing everything I needed to collect a small blood sample from my finger at home. The instructions were clear, and while the process required focus, it wasn’t difficult. After pricking my finger and collecting blood into two capsules, I simply mailed the samples back using the pre-paid packaging.

From start to finish, testing took about 30 minutes. Within three days, my results appeared on a secure online dashboard, accompanied by a doctor’s summary. As I opened the report, nerves quickly gave way to relief. The doctor confirmed: “Everything looks good with your General Health Test results. Your biomarkers are in, or near, the normal range. These are considered markers of good health.”

This reassurance was invaluable. The report detailed liver function markers such as bilirubin, albumin, and protein levels, each explained clearly. Had any been abnormal, it could have indicated liver damage or inflammation, but mine were normal, suggesting healthy liver function.

There was a minor hiccup—my full blood count wasn’t processed due to a technical issue. However, My Health Checked promptly assured me this was unlikely to hide any significant problems given my other results, and they offered a retest or a refund if desired.

Curious about the scope of the test, I asked if these results meant I could consider myself perfectly healthy. They clarified that blood tests aren’t a complete screening for all diseases but having normal biomarkers strongly indicates good health. Any abnormal findings, depending on severity, would either lead to lifestyle changes or consultation with a healthcare professional.

Ultimately, this test has significantly eased my health anxieties, offering concrete evidence that I’m in good shape. While I may never fully escape health worries, gaining this clarity has been a major relief. I highly recommend this accessible test to anyone looking for peace of mind about their health.
