YouTuber Gavin Wren dedicated three days to visiting the UK’s finest motorway service stations, based on a public vote, and was particularly impressed by a stop on the M5 in Gloucestershire. During his 72-hour road trip, Gavin explored ten of the country’s best service stations, uncovering more than just standard pit stops.
One highlight was Gloucestershire Services on the M5, which sources food from over 130 local producers within a 30-mile radius. This dedication to fresh, local produce helped the service station clinch the top spot in a Which? survey last year, earning an impressive 85% public vote.
Described by Which? as a “true destination service station,” Gloucestershire is not only visually appealing but also a beloved spot for locals who come to shop and even walk their dogs. Gavin, who was unaware of what awaited him, was immediately captivated by the “massive” farm shop, calling it “nuts” and “on another level.”

The service station also surprised Gavin with its access to natural surroundings. Just a short walk past the back doors led to a quiet lane and breathtaking countryside – “it’s just like being in the countryside,” he said.
However, a minor downside to his visit was the price of the food. Gavin noted, “The food was incredible and it was incredibly expensive. I spent £7 or £8 on some strawberries and a drink.”
Beyond Gloucestershire, Gavin’s journey included stops at Beaconsfield (M40), Skelton Lake (M1), Cairn Lodge (M74), and Rugby (M6). Yet, the standout for him was Tebay Services on the M6. With its excellent food, beautiful hotel, and stunning countryside walks, Gavin described it as the “OG bougie service station” and said it was so good he’d be happy to holiday there.
His road trip reveals that motorway services can offer much more than just convenience—they can be destinations rich in local flavor and unique experiences.
