Hundreds gathered at St John the Baptist Church in Cirencester and lined the surrounding streets to honor the life of Sarah Jayne Crook, a cherished mother, nurse, and community figure who tragically passed away following a car crash last month.
On the morning of June 5, Sarah, 38, was involved in a collision on the A419 in Swindon, Wiltshire, when her Toyota Aygo was struck by a Vauxhall Vivaro van near the White Hart Roundabout. Her sudden passing sent shockwaves through the community, prompting an outpouring of grief and support.
Described by her family as an “amazing wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend,” Sarah leaves behind her husband Andrew and six children. A fundraising campaign set up in her memory has raised £32,000 to support her family during this difficult time.

Sarah’s funeral was a heartfelt testament to her impact, filling the church to standing room only with more than 300 mourners, including nearly 100 of her nursing colleagues. As the Cirencester Charter Market bustled outside, those inside paid their respects to a woman whose dedication extended beyond her profession.
Friends and members of the Cirencester Creative Dance Academy, where several of Sarah’s children continue to participate, spoke movingly about her generosity and spirit. Camilla Alicia Bates, one of the academy’s leaders, recalled how Sarah volunteered tirelessly behind the scenes, providing first aid and unwavering support. “She was always there, going out of her way to help, even while juggling her job and family,” Camilla said. “Her absence is deeply felt, especially by the children who still continue dancing despite this heartbreaking loss.”
Katherine Lucy Bates, co-leader at the dance academy, echoed the outpouring of admiration, highlighting Sarah’s kindness both professionally and personally. “She cared profoundly—not just for her patients, but for her whole community.”
University friend Rachel King described Sarah as “the sweetest lady,” emphasizing the collective sense of loss experienced by all who knew her. “There’s nothing negative to say about Sarah; she truly was a sweetheart.”
Wiltshire Police continue their investigation into the fatal collision and have appealed for witnesses to come forward, providing a contact number for those with any information regarding the incident.
Sarah Jayne Crook’s funeral was more than a goodbye—it was a poignant celebration of a remarkable woman whose warmth, dedication, and love touched countless lives.
