Gloucester Quays experienced an outstanding festive season in 2025, marking a significant boost in both visitor numbers and sales as the beloved Christmas markets returned for their 13th year.
The momentum began with a remarkable Black Friday event that aligned with November’s payday, driving a 6.5% year-on-year increase in retail sales for the month. This strong performance carried seamlessly into December, with footfall rising by 5.5% compared to the previous year.
The Christmas markets, featuring 100 stalls and a bustling ice rink, emerged as a major attraction, contributing to a 15% increase in weekend footfall during the seven weeks leading up to Christmas—the busiest season ever recorded for these festive amenities.

Retail sales also saw gains, with a 1.1% year-on-year increase in December. Categories such as homeware and gifting surged by an impressive 66.3%, followed by menswear which climbed 31.2%. This growth is attributed in part to the arrival of new menswear retailers throughout 2025, including Men Kind, Ben Sherman, Label Yard, and Søstrene Grene, along with the expansion of Crew Clothing’s store.
Looking ahead to 2026, Gloucester Quays is gearing up to maintain this positive trajectory with the launch of new leisure facilities like the Clip ‘n Climb indoor climbing centre and several new food and beverage outlets in the pipeline.
Paul Carter, Asset Director at Peel Retail & Leisure, owners of Gloucester Quays, remarked, “These results underscore the resilience and appeal of our diverse tenant mix and the carefully selected new additions introduced in 2025 to meet evolving consumer preferences. Our identity as a ‘crossover outlet’ has created a unique combination of retail, leisure, and atmosphere that sets Gloucester Quays apart.”
He added, “In 2026, we are committed to expanding our leisure and dining options to complete a comprehensive day-out experience. Our historic waterside location continues to attract visitors seeking a distinctive shopping environment, and we aim to raise the standard for outlet centres while securing our status as a leading regional destination.”
Further affirming this confidence, key fashion retailers including M&S, Adidas, Asics, Eden Menswear, and Joules have renewed leases for 2026, with Joules planning a major store refurbishment.
