House Hit by Towering Water Jet as Massive Leak Floods Gloucester Road

A burst water main in Matson’s Sneedhams Green, Gloucester, created an extraordinary scene on Wednesday as a powerful jet of water shot nearly 100 feet into the air. The dramatic burst flooded nearby roads and caused significant damage after one house was directly struck by the forceful spray.

Thousands of gallons of water blasted from the pipe, drenching local properties and washing debris and chunks of concrete into the streets. Sneedhams Road was severely flooded, forcing residents to deal with both property damage and temporary loss of water supply.

Severn Trent acted swiftly, deploying engineers to repair the main and distributing bottled water to those affected by the disruption. The community expressed relief and gratitude when the water flow was finally stopped just before 2 p.m., with residents applauding the efforts.

A Severn Trent spokesperson thanked locals for their patience, noting the burst affected one of the company’s larger pipes. “We are working directly with customers impacted by the incident to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” they said.

Community Independent Councillor Alastair Chambers described the scene vividly: “Thousands of litres of water per second were spraying 100 feet high. Concrete, earth, and debris were blasted out from the ground. Large sections of thick concrete slab were shattered.

“Tragically, a million-pound home adjacent to the water main sustained damage, with rocks and debris breaking windows and dislodging roof tiles.”
