Homes Evacuated Following Suspicious Package Discovery at RAF Lossiemouth

A major security alert was triggered at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, Scotland, on Thursday after a suspicious package was discovered during a routine security sweep. Authorities quickly evacuated nearby homes while bomb disposal experts were dispatched to the scene.

RAF Lossiemouth, one of the United Kingdom’s most strategically important air bases, is home to the Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fleet responsible for defending UK airspace. Upon discovery of the suspicious item, officers established a large security cordon around the base and adjoining residential areas to ensure public safety.

The Royal Air Force emphasized that the evacuation is unrelated to Exercise Agile Warrior 26, an extensive homeland defence drill underway this week designed to test the RAF’s operational readiness amidst growing global security tensions.

An RAF spokesperson stated, “Exercise Agile Warrior 26 is a carefully planned homeland defence exercise aiming to rigorously assess the RAF’s capacity to protect the UK in an increasingly contested global security environment, ensuring we remain ready to defend the nation.”

Following the discovery, another statement confirmed: “During a routine security search at RAF Lossiemouth, a suspicious package was found. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams have been notified, a cordon is in place, and we are cooperating closely with civilian agencies to resolve the issue.” The base’s main gate has been closed with alternative access routes established.
