If you love a bacon sandwich but dread the cleanup, there’s an easy solution to put that leftover bacon grease to good use. Chef and TikTok influencer Ian Fujimoto, with over 1.5 million followers, shares clever cooking tips and recipes that elevate everyday meals.
Ian has introduced a smart technique to preserve leftover bacon fat, transforming it into what he calls “liquid gold.” This prized ingredient is celebrated in kitchens worldwide for the rich, smoky flavour it imparts.
Bacon fat’s appeal lies in its incredible versatility. It’s perfect for frying, sautéing, or adding depth to sauces. Using it not only boosts the flavour of your dishes but also lends a unique, smoky richness that can turn simple meals into gourmet experiences.

So, how can you make and store your own liquid gold? Ian explains the process is straightforward. After cooking bacon—whether in a pan or the oven—you’ll be left with a generous amount of bacon fat. Instead of discarding it after it solidifies, Ian suggests saving it in a jar with a lid.
In a TikTok video, he demonstrates: “Just pour all the bacon grease into a jar. There might be bits left inside, but that’s okay.” To clean the fat, he recommends adding boiling water in equal parts to the bacon grease.
Seal the jar tightly and swirl the mixture well before placing it upside down in your fridge. Once solidified, the water separates from the fat, allowing you to pour off the water along with any impurities. Scrape out any remaining residue, and you’ll be left with clean, ready-to-use bacon fat.
This simple hack turns bacon grease from kitchen waste into a prized cooking fat that enhances your meals with minimal effort.
