A collection of historic photographs taken on 6 April 1968 has provided a rare glimpse into Gloucester’s Cole Avenue and Bristol Road roundabout, showing the area at a time when traffic was noticeably lighter. These images, supplied by photographer Elvin Young, highlight how much the junction has evolved over the decades.
Today, the roundabout is recognised as one of Gloucester’s busiest, serving as a key junction for commuters and local traffic alike. In contrast, the 1968 photos show a calm and less congested scene, reflecting the difference in road usage and urban development over the past half century.
