Historic Cotswolds Cricket Club Plans Modern Clubhouse Upgrade

Fairford Cricket Club, a cherished sporting institution in the Cotswolds, is set to enhance its historic clubhouse with a thoughtfully designed extension and renovation.

The current pavilion, originally constructed shortly after the club’s official founding in 1889, has served the community for over 130 years, evolving through several expansions. Yet, the club’s roots stretch even further back to 1843, reflecting its deep connection to local heritage. The first recorded match at the current ground was against Kempsford, marking the beginning of a proud cricketing tradition.

Beyond cricket, the pavilion and grounds have become a vibrant hub for local activities, hosting events such as the Fairford Festival and Fireworks, and supporting other sports teams. It also functions as a business center, offering workspace for small business owners and remote workers, in collaboration with Business Connect to foster community and commerce.

The club boasts a thriving youth section with teams across multiple age groups, while senior players compete in high-level County League competitions, backed by excellent coaching. For all members and visitors, Friday nights are dedicated to Club Night social gatherings, welcoming everyone regardless of cricket involvement.

Social membership is attractively priced at £25 yearly, granting access to year-round events, a welcoming beer garden, and a subsidised bar, right in the heart of Fairford.

The proposed refurbishment includes a contemporary extension designed within budget to enhance accessibility, seating, and facilities. Upgrades will feature a new bar, kitchen, storage spaces, changing rooms, improved toilets, and an outdoor seating area that offers stunning views over the cricket field and the rolling Cotswold landscape.

The club plans to submit a planning application soon, with a decision anticipated by February.

Clive Elliott, Chair of Fairford Cricket Club Committee, shared: “We hope the community will rally behind us to turn our vision for a smart, modern cricket clubhouse into reality. We’re offering a range of sponsorship and donation opportunities, including branding around the ground, recognition on the pavilion plaque, and discounted venue hire for supporters.”

With community backing, sponsorship, and grants, Fairford Cricket Club aims to create a welcoming, state-of-the-art facility that will serve its growing membership and benefit the wider Fairford community for years to come.
