High Street Closure for Vibrant Summer Market Event in Tewkesbury

Residents and visitors to the lively Gloucestershire market town of Tewkesbury are advised of a significant High Street closure next Sunday, July 19, to host a popular food and craft market. The event, organised by Cotswold Markets Ltd, has flourished in recent years and will feature over 70 stalls, attracting crowds from across the region.

The High Street will be closed from 5am to 8pm between Church Street (The Cross) and Quay Street, to allow setup, market operation, and stall removal. The market itself will run from 10am until 4pm, offering a diverse range of foods and crafts to shoppers. Motorists should note that parking will be banned during the closure and all vehicles must be removed by 5am to avoid disruption.

An alternative route will be in place via Barton Street, Oldbury Road, and Sun Street, with clear diversion signage to assist drivers. Despite the closure, emergency vehicle access will remain available, as will pedestrian access along the High Street. Access to the back of Avon/Red Lane will also be maintained. Stagecoach bus services will operate from alternative stops on Barton Street during the event.

Local businesses are encouraged to plan ahead for deliveries and customer parking given the road closure and possible disruptions to commercial waste collections. The organisers have expressed gratitude for the community’s cooperation, highlighting that the market aims to boost local footfall and support the town’s economy.

Tewkesbury, renowned for its historic Abbey, continues to thrive with a jam-packed summer calendar, including theatre performances, live music gigs, and Europe’s largest annual medieval re-enactment, which begins today, July 11. From July 24 to 26, the town will host Tewkesbury Live — a series of free music gigs across various pubs and venues, further celebrating the town’s vibrant cultural scene.
