Heartbreaking Loss Leads to Match Cancellation for Yate Town FC

Yate Town Football Club recently made the difficult decision to cancel their scheduled match against Poole Town, revealing a heartbreaking reason behind the unexpected postponement. On November 8th, the club announced via Twitter that the game would not go ahead “due to sudden and unexpected news early this morning.” After consultation with the Southern League and Poole Town, the fixture was officially called off.

The club initially requested privacy but later shared the tragic news: the sudden passing of club captain Joe Guest’s five-week-old son, Ezra. In response to this devastating loss, supporters and teammates have come together to offer compassion and assistance.

Fellow Yate Town player George Box set up a GoFundMe campaign to help ease some of the financial burdens faced by Joe Guest and his partner, Jodie Hood. The fundraiser aims to cover funeral expenses and help with daily household costs, allowing the family to focus on healing during this unimaginable time.

Box shared a heartfelt message with the campaign, stating: “We are reaching out today with a heavy heart for our friends, Joe Guest and Jodie Hood. On November 7th, they suffered an unimaginable and sudden loss when their beautiful baby boy, Ezra, passed away unexpectedly at only five weeks old. There are no words to ease their pain right now, but we want to lift some of the burden so they can focus on healing. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference and show Joe and Jodie the support they have.”

Yate Town FC expressed their deep sorrow and extended their condolences through social media, emphasizing the pain the family is enduring. They called for the community to come together in a show of love, support, and solidarity during this difficult period.

The club encourages anyone wishing to assist to visit the GoFundMe page and contribute, highlighting that every donation matters and reassures the family they are not alone.
