Heart Surgeon Identifies ‘Biggest Red Flag’ Symptom Signaling Serious Cardiac Trouble

Heart health is a vital concern worldwide, with cardiovascular diseases accounting for nearly 25% of all deaths annually. Early recognition of warning signs can be life-saving, and Dr. Jeremy London, a prominent American heart surgeon, has stressed the importance of identifying key symptoms that may signal serious heart problems.

In a recent Instagram video, Dr. London pinpointed chest pain or chest pressure as the “biggest red flag” indicating a possible issue with blood flow to the heart muscle. He explained, “Chest pain or pressure caused by activity and relieved by rest is a major warning sign, often referred to as stable angina. It suggests portions of the heart are not getting enough blood.”

The NHS describes heart attack-related chest discomfort as a “feeling of pressure, heaviness, tightness or squeezing across your chest.” While this pain can be severe, some people may experience milder symptoms resembling indigestion.

Beyond chest discomfort, Dr. London warned about other subtle but critical signs such as progressive shortness of breath, especially during activity. He also highlighted unusual fatigue or a noticeable drop in exercise tolerance—feeling unusually tired after simple tasks like taking out the trash or walking through a supermarket car park.

Dr. London emphasized, “Our bodies have built-in warning systems. It’s crucial to heed these symptoms and seek medical attention promptly to prevent serious complications.”
