Gloucestershire’s Top and Bottom GP Practices Revealed by Patient Reviews

The latest GP Patient Survey, which gathered feedback from over 2.7 million patients nationwide, offers an insightful look into how people feel about their local GP practices. Overall, the survey reveals a generally positive picture, with 75% of respondents rating their experience as “very good” or “fairly good.” Only a small number rated their experience poorly, with 7% saying “fairly poor” and 5% “very poor.”

Confidence in GPs remains strong, as 93% of patients expressed trust in their doctor. Additionally, 86% felt their GP treated them with care and concern, while 87% said their GP listened attentively. However, one notable area of concern is access—only 53% of respondents found it easy to contact their GP practice, with satisfaction levels varying widely between surgeries.

In Gloucestershire, patients gave the highest marks to Beeches Green Surgery in Stroud and Staunton and Corse Surgery, both achieving an impressive 96% positive rating for overall experience. On the other end of the spectrum, Gloucester Health Access Centre and The Willow Tree Practice in Stonehouse received the lowest scores at 72%. It is important to note that The Willow Tree Practice has since transferred its patients to another surgery.

Nationally, four surgeries achieved perfect 100% “good” scores: Royal Hospital Chelsea, Wraysdale House Surgery in Coniston, Kenneth Macrae Medical Centre in St. Helens, and New Ottershaw Surgery in Chertsey, Surrey.

Conversely, Medicus Select Care in Enfield recorded the lowest score in England, with only 23% of patients rating the practice as good. This practice is no longer accepting new patients and has permanently closed according to NHS and Google records. Compass Medical Practice in Blackpool and Emersons Green Medical Centre in Bristol followed closely, with 29% and 32% positive ratings, respectively.

It’s worth noting that ratings can be influenced by sample size. For example, Compass Medical Practice’s score is based on feedback from just 39 patients, representing 11% of those surveyed.
