The village market in King’s Stanley, Gloucestershire, has flourished since its launch six years ago, providing a valuable platform for local businesses to showcase and sell their unique products. Held every first and third Sunday of the month at The Rest, the market continues to grow in popularity, with fresh produce vendors set to join the lineup for the first time from July 6.
Originally held outside the Kings Head pub, the market relocated to Court Farm’s renovated barn known as BOHO after the pub’s closure, before settling at its current venue, The Rest. This welcoming space not only hosts market stalls but also features a cozy café, making it a perfect spot for shoppers to relax and socialize.
Market manager Tess Wheeler, 55, shared insights on the vibrant market scene: “Our stalls feature an eclectic mix of goods including plants, giftware, bird and butterfly boxes, felted animals, homemade jams and chutneys, body care products, macramé art, painters’ works, dog treats, pet supplies, jewelry, toys, seasonal gifts, and much more. It’s a wonderful community hub.”

July will mark a new chapter as local fresh produce sellers join on a trial basis, responding to demand from regular customers. “We’re excited about adding fresh produce,” Tess added. “It’s important that customers support these traders so we can continue to bring them back.”
The market warmly welcomes dogs and provides a dedicated play area for toddlers, making it a family-friendly outing. On certain days, visitors might even catch a glimpse of short horn cattle grazing nearby, adding to the rural charm.
With around ten regular stalls and a mix of indoor and outdoor setups, the market actively seeks new traders to diversify offerings and keep the experience fresh. Tess emphasized the importance of community support: “Without it, we risk losing momentum. We want the market to keep growing and remain a cherished destination.”
The Rest’s market in King’s Stanley offers more than just shopping—it’s a lively meeting place that nurtures local craftsmanship and brings the community together.
