Gloucestershire Secure Fast Bowler Henry Brookes on Three-Year Deal

Gloucestershire Cricket Club has officially signed right-arm fast bowler Henry Brookes from Middlesex on a three-year contract starting next season. Brookes initially joined Gloucestershire on a short-term loan at the beginning of the 2026 campaign, making a strong impression before returning to Middlesex ahead of the Vitality Blast.

During his loan spell, Brookes showcased his all-round skills, notably scoring a career-best 89 runs in a memorable away victory over Derbyshire in April, a performance still celebrated by Gloucestershire fans.

Brookes expressed his excitement about the move: “I’m really looking forward to getting started again and reuniting with people at the club I know from earlier in my career. It’s been a quiet period for me, and now I’m eager to get back on the field to show what I can do. I can’t wait to wear Gloucestershire colours and see what we achieve together.”

Director of Cricket Jon Lewis, who has known Brookes since they toured India with England Under-19s in 2017, praised the young bowler’s potential. “Henry has always been a high-potential bowler, and we believe he’s nowhere near reaching his ceiling. During his loan, we saw glimpses of what he can do before he was sidelined by a hamstring injury. With the right support, I’m confident he can develop into a top-tier player. Henry’s ambition and determination to return to top form make him an exciting addition to our squad.”

Now 26 years old, Brookes boasts an impressive first-class career, with 126 wickets to his name, including a standout 6 for 20 against Leicestershire. He started his professional career at Warwickshire, debuting against Essex in 2017 and playing 33 Championship matches before moving to Middlesex ahead of the 2023 season.

Brookes has also excelled in white-ball cricket, taking 53 wickets in 35 List A matches at a tidy economy rate of 6.00. His pace and knack for taking wickets in the shortest formats earned him a place with Birmingham Phoenix in 2022, where he recorded his best The Hundred figures of 5 for 25 against Southern Brave. Gloucestershire fans will be eager to see how Brookes’ match-winning abilities translate in his new club colours.
