Gloucestershire Secure Back-to-Back Thrilling T20 Victories

Gloucestershire continued their impressive start in the Vitality Blast men’s competition with a thrilling two-wicket victory over Glamorgan in the Severnside derby on Saturday, following their win against Warwickshire on Friday.

In a tense finale requiring 15 runs off the last over, Matt Taylor’s clever thick outside edge for four sealed the win on the final ball. Alongside Kamran Dhariwal’s composed batting, Gloucestershire established themselves as early favorites in the Central & West Group. Key contributions included Miles Hammond’s 56 runs off 31 balls and a formidable bowling spell from Duan Jansen, who took 3 wickets for 27 runs.

Glamorgan’s debutant Henry Hurle shone with a resilient 46, helping his team recover from a precarious 45-5 to post a competitive total of 157-8. Despite his efforts, Glamorgan fell just short as Gloucestershire’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the match.

Gloucestershire captain Jack Taylor reflected on the victory: “We’re thrilled to come out on top, especially after some poor batting the previous night. Our bowlers have been exceptional, which is the main reason for these wins. Chasing 158 on this ground is never straightforward with small boundaries, so it was great to hold our nerve despite some early setbacks.”

Glamorgan head coach Richard Dawson praised his team’s fightback: “Henry Hurle’s performance was outstanding, bringing the team back from a tough situation. The partnerships later in the innings were crucial, and the bowlers did well to keep us in the game. It was frustrating to come so close in a match that perhaps required an even higher target to defend.”

Glamorgan’s innings began shakily with early wickets, including Will Smale’s first-ball dismissal off Jansen. Alex Horton and Kiran Carlson also fell cheaply, leaving the team under pressure. However, Hurle’s aggressive strokeplay, featuring four sixes and skillful strike rotation, alongside Chris Cooke, propelled Glamorgan to a defendable total.

The Gloucestershire chase mirrored the pressure of the match as they lost three wickets for just seven runs inside two overs. Despite early setbacks, Hammond’s explosive hitting and Taylor’s timely boundaries kept Gloucestershire in the hunt. Notably, James Bracey suffered an unusual dismissal, accidentally dislodging his own stumps while trying to fend off a ball.

Kamran Dhariwal, batting in only his second professional game, anchored the innings alongside the tailenders, showcasing maturity beyond his experience. The final moments saw Matt Taylor deliver the finishing blow, sending the last ball to the boundary and sealing a memorable victory.

Gloucestershire’s back-to-back wins highlight their strong start in the tournament, fueled by standout performances with both bat and ball and resilience under pressure.
