Gloucestershire Secure Australian Fast Bowler Gabe Bell for Opening Games of 2026 Season

Gloucestershire has announced the signing of Australian fast bowler Gabe Bell for the initial six matches of the 2026 Rothesay County Championship season. Bell’s stint with the club will feature key fixtures, including away games against Middlesex at Lord’s and Derbyshire, as well as home matches against Durham, Lancashire, Kent, and Northants at Nevil Road.

With an impressive record of 192 wickets from 51 Sheffield Shield appearances for Tasmania, Bell has consistently showcased his bowling prowess. His achievements include nine four-wicket hauls, two five-wicket hauls, and one ten-wicket match haul. This season, Bell remains in fine form, ranking ninth in the Sheffield Shield’s wicket-taking list with 16 wickets in five matches.

Standing tall at 195cm, the 30-year-old fast bowler is known for his dependable pace and steep bounce. These attributes helped him claim 41 wickets during the 2023/24 season. Notably, Bell recently dismissed Gloucestershire’s red-ball captain Cameron Bancroft in a Sheffield Shield clash between Tasmania and Western Australia — with both players set to reunite as teammates in Bristol.

Bell, who represented Australia Under-19s in 2013 and took five wickets in three Youth ODIs, is enthusiastic about his upcoming stint. “I am obviously thrilled to get the opportunity to come over and play some county cricket with Gloucestershire. I can’t wait to get over to Bristol to meet everyone, and get started in the new year,” he said.

Gloucestershire’s Director of Cricket Jon Lewis expressed confidence in Bell’s impact: “We are really excited about Gabe joining our championship squad. We carefully considered what it takes to win in our conditions early in the season, and Gabe comes highly recommended from our Australian contacts. His consistent performances in the Sheffield Shield demonstrate exactly the kind of bowler who will thrive fit for the start of the English season. He’s hardworking and dedicated, traits we value immensely. We warmly welcome Gabe and his family to Bristol in early April.”
