A special school in Gloucestershire has been forced to partially close after severe flooding caused significant structural damage to one of its buildings. The Upper School Department at The Shrubberies School in Stonehouse has been deemed unsafe for both pupils and staff by Gloucestershire County Council.
As a result, the Upper School will remain closed on Tuesday, January 6, while the Lower School, Middle School, and Cedar Class continue to operate as usual. The council has confirmed the safety concerns: “The building is not safe for pupils and staff to access due to structural damage and severe flooding.”
The Shrubberies School serves 136 pupils ranging in age from two to nineteen years old, according to the Department for Education.

Meanwhile, across the South West region, adverse weather conditions have caused additional school closures. A yellow weather warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. on January 6, with icy conditions and scattered rain, sleet, and snow showers expected. The Met Office has predicted small snow accumulations, especially across the high ground of Wales, with 1-3 cm possible, and icy surfaces likely due to below-freezing temperatures.
