Gloucestershire County Council has announced a series of temporary traffic orders that will impact roads across Gloucester, Tewkesbury Borough, Stroud District, and the Forest of Dean starting from 9 October 2026 and continuing into 2027. The measures include multiple road closures, parking restrictions, and rolling resurfacing works. Diversions will be clearly signed on site to assist drivers, while pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained throughout the works.
Pre-treatment surface work is scheduled to take place between 7am and 7pm from 14 October to 30 November 2026. These works will involve closures or daytime restrictions on certain days as indicated by signs, affecting the following locations:
- Fieldcourt Drive, Quedgeley (no restrictions on some days)
- Elmore Lane West, Quedgeley (no restrictions on some days)
- Painswick Road and Upton Hill, Upton St Leonards (restricted between 9.30am and 3.30pm on some days)

Following these preparatory activities, carriageway resurfacing will be carried out on a rolling programme from 14 October 2026 until 31 March 2027. These works will generally be held during daytime hours from 9am to 3pm or 9.30am to 3.30pm, depending on the location. During this time, no waiting, stopping, or loading will be permitted in the work zones. Affected roads include:
- Oxstalls Lane (from B4063 Cheltenham Road to Bradley Close), Longlevens
- Rydal Road, Longlevens
- Oxstalls Way (up to the University of Gloucestershire, Oxstalls Campus entrance), Longlevens
- Keswick Close, Longlevens
- Bisley Road, Tuffley
- Chalford Road, Tuffley
In addition, the Secretary of State has extended temporary closures of public footpaths and a bridleway in Boddington and Uckington to facilitate the construction of the M5 Junction 10 improvement scheme. This order, initially effective from 9 April 2026, will now remain in place until 9 April 2028 or until construction is completed, whichever occurs first. The closures affect parts of footpaths ABO 14, ABO 24, ABO 26, ABO 13, ABO 16, and bridleway routes AUC 1, 8, 11, and 12. There will be no alternative routes available during this time; however, access to adjoining properties and emergency services will be preserved.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and observe all signage to ensure safety during these works.
