Gloucestershire has experienced several significant incidents over the past month, including serious road collisions, a dog attack, a police pursuit on the M5, and a theft, prompting Gloucestershire Police to appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage to aid ongoing investigations.
On 5 September, a fatal collision occurred on Bakers Hill in the Cotswolds involving a Ford C-Max which left the road and struck a tree. The 36-year-old male driver from Stratford was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or captured relevant dashcam footage to come forward to assist with inquiries.
A serious multi-vehicle collision on 9 September near Shipton on the A40 resulted in a motorcycle rider from Cheltenham sustaining life-threatening injuries. The incident involved a brown BMW R 1200 GS and a grey Vauxhall Combo panel van. The rider was initially hospitalised in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital before being transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. The A40 remains closed to facilitate investigation, and the public is advised to seek alternative routes. Witnesses or those with dashcam footage are urged to contact police.
Earlier in the month, between 1 and 2 September, a grey Nissan Qashqai was stolen from outside a property in Berkeley. Residents reported suspicious behaviour involving a man and woman in the area during that time. Furthermore, police are probing an assault on an elderly man in his 90s by a group of teenagers on bicycles in Tewkesbury during the August bank holiday. The teenagers reportedly shouted abuse and struck the man on the back of the head. In the Forest of Dean on 29 August, a woman in her 30s sustained significant injuries after being attacked by two dogs while delivering a parcel. Additionally, on 27 August, a 41-year-old man, Callum McLuckie, was charged following a police pursuit on the M5 between junction 11 and Gloucester Services. Charges include dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving above the legal alcohol limit, and aggravated vehicle taking. McLuckie has been granted bail and is due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on 13 October. Police are requesting dashcam footage from motorists travelling southbound on the M5 around 12:45 pm on 26 August to assist with their investigation.
