Gloucestershire may have faced a 50-run defeat against Glamorgan at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol, but their strong showing throughout the Vitality Blast group stage earned them a place in the quarter-finals. Glamorgan posted an imposing total of 235-7, one of the highest T20 scores at Bristol, led by captain Kiran Carlson’s explosive 73 off 40 balls, which included six sixes. Will Smale’s quickfire 54 and Ben Kellaway’s 47 further propelled Glamorgan’s commanding innings.
In response, Gloucestershire struggled to keep pace and were bowled out for 185, with Dawid Malan top-scoring at 39 and D’Arcy Short adding 35. Despite the loss, Gloucestershire’s consistent performances throughout the Central & West Group secured third place and progression to the quarter-finals, where they will face Northamptonshire Steelbacks away on Wednesday evening.
Gloucestershire batter Kamran Dhariwal acknowledged the challenges faced today but remained optimistic: “We found it hard to control the game with the ball as runs flowed freely. Still, qualifying for the quarter-finals was our main goal, and we achieved that. We have the quality to compete against any team and will approach the next match with confidence, knowing solid execution will give us a real chance.”

The Glamorgan innings was powered by Carlson and Smale’s aggressive start, smashing 66 runs in the six-over powerplay and building a century partnership by the ninth over. Despite a wicket breaking the partnership, Kellaway continued the onslaught, hitting four sixes before getting caught behind. Sean Dickson’s quickfire 22 helped push Glamorgan beyond 200.
For Gloucestershire, Malan and Short began strongly, reaching 67-1 after the powerplay. However, leg-spinner Mitchell Crane’s tight bowling halted the momentum, taking key wickets including Miles Hammond and Jack Taylor. Though Dhariwal and James Bracey tried to revive the innings with some powerful sixes, wickets fell at crucial moments, ultimately leaving Gloucestershire short of the target.
As they look forward to the quarter-finals, Gloucestershire will aim to build on their earlier performances and turn their potential into victory against Northamptonshire.
