Gloucestershire secured their first victory of the season with a commanding 10-wicket win against Derbyshire in the Rothesay County Championship Division Two match at the Central Co-op County Ground. The innings victory was sealed thanks to an impressive bowling effort and a quick-fire chase by Cameron Bancroft and Ben Charlesworth.
Derbyshire were bowled out for 252, despite solid contributions from Matt Montgomery, who scored 74, and Luis Reece, who made 50. Gloucestershire’s bowlers dominated, with Gabe Bell and Will Williams each taking three wickets to dismantle the Derbyshire lineup.
Gloucestershire’s seamers struck early, taking two wickets in consecutive overs, putting Derbyshire on the back foot. Montgomery reached his maiden first-class fifty, showcasing resilience. However, the visitors' persistent pressure prevailed. Williams dismissed Brooke Guest with a slipping ball that rattled the off stump, further tipping the scales in Gloucestershire’s favor.

Spin bowlers then stepped in, applying pressure and capturing key wickets, including Montgomery’s dismissal by Graeme van Buuren’s appeal. Zak Chappell and Luis Reece battled to hold the innings together, but Chappell eventually fell after a dropped catch—a rare lapse from Gloucestershire’s Miles Hammond—yet the momentum remained with Gloucestershire.
The second new ball brought quick wickets, including Reece and Shoaib Bashir, as Derbyshire’s resistance waned. Muhammad Abbas tried to stave off the inevitable, but was dismissed on the cusp of tea, leaving Derbyshire trailing.
Chasing a modest 36 runs, Beng Charlesworth and Cameron Bancroft quickly wrapped up the win in less than five overs. Derbyshire opted to bowl their spinners toward the end to protect their over-rate, but Gloucestershire’s clinical chase ensured a comprehensive 21-point haul, while Derbyshire earned 3 points from the game.
